In the late 1800’s, members of Chicago Yacht Club conceived of a race that would challenge every sailor to the weather, winds, storms, and seas of Lake Michigan, as well as the big question: What course do you take on a 333-mile race?

Now in its 112th running, the Race to Mackinac still presents the same question and challenges. Although sailors today use much more technology—from electronics to clothing— than did sailors 123 years ago, so many aspects of the Race remain unchanged.

Three Island Goats from Chicago Yacht Club, Angela Graham, Jan Promer and Nancy Snyder, “take you aboard” for the Race…now and in the past. Please join us as we learn about the pre-Race planning, the preparations of boat and crew, the charting and navigation and what life aboard is like during this prestigious international sporting event
