Shopping has been a pastime for all our lives. But it wasn’t always that way. A century ago, we owned less and we wore our clothing until the fabric wore out. How did shopping evolve into a regular pastime, expanding our wardrobe and our closets?

Market Square has borne every phase of that retail evolution since its founding. It arose as retail shopping in the suburbs was at its infancy and has weathered the Great Depression, numerous recessions, and the introduction of the shopping mall. Even though internet shopping is booming nationally, Market Square is still here as our window on fashion.
